BREAKING: Akpabio Cut Off Senator Jarigbe’s Mic For Claiming That Some Senior Senators Got ₦500M Each

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the head of the nation’s Senate, allegedly turned off Senator Agom Jarigbe’s microphone after the latter said that certain senators with the highest ranking received ₦500 million each from the budgetary allotment for 2024.

According to Premium Times, Senator Agom Jarigbe made this assertion while debating a charge of budget padding brought against the Nigerian Senate by Senator Abdul Ningi, the senator for the Bauchi Central Senatorial Zone.

Mr. Jarigbe said: “If we want to go into this issue, all of us are culpable. Some senators here, so-called senior senators, got N500 million each. I am a ranking senator. I didn’t get. Did I go to the press?”

As he (Jarigbe) was still speaking on the matter, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio reportedly switched off his mic, in order to stop people from hearing what Senator Jarigbe was saying about the ₦500 million.

When Senator Akpabio switched off his the Senate chamber became rowdy for about 30 minutes before the Senate President, Senator Akpabio instructed all the senators to return to their respective seats.

It should be recalled that Senator Ningi was yesterday suspended for three months, for accusing Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led government and the Nigerian Senate of padding budget.
