LlThe Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for the Taraba and Anambra State Commands.
The appointments, announced on Wednesday, 5th January 2025, are part of the Commission’s efforts to enhance effective policing and uphold law and order across the nation.
Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere, a seasoned officer from Abia State, has been named the new Commissioner of Police for Taraba State. He succeeds CP Peter Oparah, who has been redeployed to a different assignment.
Ariekpere’s extensive experience in policing, particularly in crisis management and community engagement, is expected to elevate the professionalism of the Taraba State Command.
In a similar vein, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, a highly decorated officer from Bayelsa State, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Anambra State. He takes over from Obong Nnache Itam, who has completed his tenure.
Orutugu’s proficiency in intelligence gathering and crime prevention is anticipated to strengthen Anambra State’s security framework.
DIG Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, has urged the new Commissioners to “quickly acclimatise to their new roles and ensure there are no gaps that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.”
He underscored the necessity of dedication and commitment to their duties, asserting that the new CPs must contribute to eradicating the threats posed by bandits and criminals.
Argungu also assured that the Commission will continually monitor the conduct of the new Commissioners and provide the necessary support to facilitate their success in these pivotal roles. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police Force to effectively respond to the country’s security challenges.
