The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to make amends for the faults it made in the general election of 2023 and win the presidency again in 2027, according to the Nigerian Tribune. In an interview with Dickson Iroegbu, the well-known producer and host of Nigeria Right Now, PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu made this pledge.
Anyanwu stated, “We made a strategic error in the 2023 elections, but our focus is on reclaiming the presidency in 2027, and we are working toward that goal.”
He further emphasized that there is no faction within the PDP led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, asserting that the PDP remains the most stable party in the country.
He added that the party has conducted congresses in 29 states with only minor issues, which are typical in any party, and that they are progressing well.
Anyanwu also spoke about his longstanding friendship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, dating back to their time as Council Chairmen, and encouraged that any concerns regarding Wike be formally addressed through the PDP’s Disciplinary Committee.
“Wike and I have been friends since our days as Council chairmen, we can’t stop being friends because of partisan politics”, he stated.
Regarding his role in the party, Anyanwu explained that despite a Court of Appeal ruling for his removal, he remains the National Secretary because of an ongoing appeal at the Supreme Court, which has issued a stay of execution, as well as a valid Federal High Court judgment confirming his tenure.
He emphasized that, legally, he retains the position until the Supreme Court makes a final decision.
Anyanwu also criticized the current state of the country, blaming the APC-led government for suppressing the opposition.
