Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Monday Okpebholo of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the gubernatorial election in Edo State.
He polled 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third with 22,761 votes.
“That Monday, Okpebholo of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” INEC’s Returning Officer for the poll, Prof Faruk Kuta, said at exactly 09:27 pm.
17 governorship candidates contested the election.
