Armed Military Officers Storm Ikeja Electric Office

Armed Nigerian military officers stormed the Ikeja Electric office in Lagos on Thursday after the power company disconnected electricity to an Air Force base.

According to reports, the incident took place at Ikeja Electric’s branch on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo.

Video footage circulating online shows uniformed military personnel carrying weapons, disrupting operations, and allegedly forcing some staff members to kneel. Some employees were also reportedly assaulted during the raid.

The dispute began after Ikeja Electric cut off power to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in Ikeja about two weeks ago due to unpaid electricity bills amounting to millions of naira.

Sources claim that the Air Force had an agreement to pay ₦60 million per month for 10–12 hours of daily electricity supply. However, while NAF officials insist they have been meeting their payment obligations, Ikeja Electric argues that outstanding debts remain unpaid.

Military sources raised concerns that the power outage compromised security at the Air Force base, particularly affecting an operational warehouse storing high-calibre weapons.

They claim that rising temperatures due to a lack of cooling systems put sensitive military equipment at risk.

As of the time of reporting, Ikeja Electric’s office had not resumed normal operations.
