BREAKING: Arsenal show interest in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Arsenal have shown their interest in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana at the end of the season, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Gunners are likely to invest on a new holding midfielder this summer with the possibility of Thomas Partey heading through the exit door.

Onana is reportedly one of the names on their wishlist and Sport claim that they are favourites along with Manchester United to sign the Belgian.

The 22-year-old is also on the radar of Barcelona, but the La Liga giants are only willing to pay €40 million which is far less than Everton’s €60m price tag.

Sport claim that Arsenal and United have the capacity to cover the Toffees’ demands.

Onana would be a top-class signing for Arsenal

Onana has been brilliant from the defensive midfield role for the Toffees this term. He has won an average of 2.5 tackles and 65 per cent of his duels.

The former Lille man has also made 5.7 recoveries per appearance. He has impressed with his tireless work rate and high pressing from the centre of the park.

Arsenal could see him as a potential replacement for Partey, who has been injury prone.

The Ghanaian has suffered plenty of injuries since his arrival from Atletico in 2020. He has managed only five appearances this term due to multiple injury issues.

With his contract expiring in June next year, the hierarchy are most likely to cash in on his services. Onana could be seen as a like-for-like replacement for Partey.

Onana’s passing accuracy is a weak point. He has a success rate of only 84 per cent, but that should improve with better players operating around him.

United are also admirers of the midfielder, but Arsenal should have an advantage over the Red Devils with their good progress in the league over recent years.

The Gunners are currently in a strong position to offer Onana Champions League football next term unlike United, who are eight points adrift of the top four.
