BREAKING: Assembly Issues Warrant for Arrest of Rivers Electoral Commission Chair

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a warrant for the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), to appear before it.

During Monday’s plenary session, the Speaker of the Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, announced the arrest warrant following the expiry of a 72-hour ultimatum for Justice Enebeli to attend.

This warrant was re-issued after an earlier 48-hour deadline also went unmet.

Justice Enebeli had been summoned to clarify the conduct of the local government election held on October 5, 2024.

In the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that annulled the previous local government election, Enebeli set a new date of August 9, 2025, for a fresh poll in the state.

Governor Similanayi Fubara complied with the Supreme Court’s decision by dissolving the 23 local government administrations and directing the affected chairmen to relinquish their positions to the respective heads of local government administration.
