Media aide to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has questioned the recent controversy regarding the legal status of Lagos State House Of Assembly’s impeached speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Naija News reported that a Supreme Court document, dated 24th July 2020, revealed that Obasa was not a lawyer recognized by the apex court.
The document, the Supreme Court’s response to a verification request on Obasa‘s status as a lawyer, was signed by Gertrude Karenton-Mordi on behalf of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court
In a post via X on Friday, Paul Ibe queried why the document was released to the public domain after Obasa’s impeachment.
He alleged that many people like Obasa are in government, from top positions to lawmakers.
According to Ibe, some government officials elected in 2023, lied about their education, were involved in a credit scam and were indicted for stealing funds.
He wrote, “Why is the Supreme Court document alleging that impeached Speaker Obasa is not a registered legal practitioner just coming out now? By the way, there are several of such persons still serving in government from the very top to lawmakers.
“Among the class of 2023 are those who forged certificates; lied about schools they never attended; refunded money for links to drugs trafficking; indicted for stealing funds of their clients and involved in credit card scam. There are several Obasas still holding sway.”
