The Bauchi State Police Command has taken decisive disciplinary action against officers found guilty of professional misconduct, including dismissing one police constable and demoting four others.
The state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, revealed this while presenting the Command’s activities report for 2024.
CP Muhammad highlighted the efforts to maintain accountability and professionalism within the force: “We have actively addressed instances of professional misconduct within our Command from January 2024 to date. A total of 18 personnel have undergone internal disciplinary measures, demonstrating our dedication to maintaining high operational standards. This includes the dismissal of one Police Constable, rank reductions for four officers, warning letters issued to six personnel, and reprimands issued to four others.”
The Commissioner credited the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and the Police Public Relations Department for their pivotal roles in addressing public complaints.
He disclosed that the Command received and investigated 10 complaints during the year, leading to the recovery of ₦784,000 from implicated officers. The recovered funds were returned to the victims.
“Our efforts culminated in the recovery of ₦784,000 from the implicated officers, which has been duly returned to the affected victims,” Muhammad said, emphasizing the Command’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.
Looking ahead, the police chief affirmed the Command’s readiness for 2025, with plans to deploy enhanced strategies for safeguarding lives and property while building on the successes of the outgoing year.
CP Muhammad also expressed gratitude to Bauchi State residents, security agencies, quasi-security outfits, and traditional and religious institutions for their unwavering cooperation and support in fostering peace and security across the state.
