Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has narrated how Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, once visited his residence carrying a ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag that initially sparked suspicion.

Charly Boy said he first thought the former Anambra State governor had come to offer him a bribe, only to later discover that the bag contained kola nuts and garden eggs presented as a traditional gesture.

Recounting the encounter during a recent Podcast with KAA Truths, the activist said he was taken aback when he saw the large travel bag placed near his door during Obi’s visit.

“It’s not like Peter Obi is my friend oo. We don’t drink tea o. I know that one day, he brought one Ghana Must Go bag, eh come to my house. I say, this man want to disgrace himself,” he said.

“Cos when I came down from upstairs, I saw one big Ghana Must Go bag wey park for near the door. Big Ghana Must Go bag like this. My brain con dey do different kinds of calculation. Wetin fit dey this bag? Abi e want to bribe me?”

Charly Boy noted that the thought puzzled him, given his admiration for Obi’s personality and political vision.

“But he (Peter Obi) doesn’t need to bribe me nah. I am already in love with the guy and his vision,” he added.

He explained that the visit later turned into a conversation centred on the country’s challenges and possible solutions.

“Till we talk wetin e com do. We talk about Nigeria again. How we go do and so,” he said.

According to Charly Boy, Obi eventually disclosed the purpose of the bag as he prepared to leave his residence.

“Then when he was going, he said ehn I bring some small thing o. I told my boy oya bring the Ghana Must Go. We open am wetin dey there. ‘Angara (garden egg)… I say this Peter ehn. I said na the correct person be this. He brought kola nuts,” he recounted.
