Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, a Nigerian author, professor, lawyer, and human rights advocate, has resorted to X (previously Twitter) to voice his discontent with the country’s legal system, calling it “confusing.”
According to a post on the official X handle of Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, the human rights activist said that the practice of law in Nigeria is so confusing that bail for murder is set at N5 million while bail for criminal defamation is set for N50 million. In his curiosity, the human rights activist asked, “How does it work?” Chidi Odinkalu’s post is in reaction to the news that alleged killers of a student of Ajayi Crowther University were granted N5 million bail each.
Chidi Anselm Odinkalu had written, “The practice of law in #Nigeria is very confusing to the point of being discredited: bail for murder is set at N5m; bail for “criminal defamation” is set at N50m. How does this even work….?!’
