BREAKING: Corps member threatened by NYSC official after calling Tinubu a “terrible president” in viral video

A serving corps member in Lagos State has raised an alarm after allegedly receiving threatening messages following her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s government over rising inflation and economic hardship.

In the widely circulated video shared on TikTok via @talktoraye, the corps member expressed frustration over Nigeria’s deteriorating economic conditions.

She openly called Tinubu a “terrible leader” and questioned what steps the government was taking to ease the suffering of citizens.

She further lamented how the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme has been less beneficial, as she spends more than her monthly allowance on transportation and living expenses.

“If a lot of Nigerians come out and start speaking about what we are going through, maybe changes will be made. I just want to say to our president, I don’t know if there is any other president that is as terrible as you, but you are such a terrible president,” she said.

She described her frustration after visiting a supermarket, stating that the price of food items, including a crate of eggs, has skyrocketed to N6,500, an amount she recalled was once just N800.

“I am so overwhelmed because this is the first time I’ve stayed out of my family house. Every single penny I make, I am using it to pay bills,” she lamented.

She also decried the poor living conditions in Lagos, stating, “Lagos stinks. Everywhere smells. What is the government doing about the smell?”

Following the video’s virality, the corps member claimed she started receiving threatening messages, allegedly from NYSC officials.

In a follow-up video, she recorded a phone call with an NYSC official who could be heard saying, “Are you normal? Keep quiet and bring down the video you posted.”

Sharing screenshots of messages received on her Instagram page, @iamraye__, she revealed that some NYSC officials were allegedly trying to track her down.

“Deleting this content is of no use because they already know me. However, deleting it means whatever they do to me, nobody would know.

“If they decide to give me a hefty punishment, nobody would know because I used my own hands to cover it by deleting what I started,” she wrote.

She insisted that she had done nothing wrong, as she merely exercised her freedom of speech and only questioned the government without making any false accusations.

“I made sure to not accuse the government of anything maliciously! I questioned them. I asked questions. As an NYSC corper, I didn’t sign off my freedom of speech.”

She further disclosed that NYSC officials had ordered her to report to their office on Monday but continued to reach out, allegedly attempting to intimidate her.

“Dear NYSC, if you say a corper has faulted, you wouldn’t treat them like this and scare them! You are scaring me for my dear life. Please leave me alone.”

NYSC is yet to officially respond to the allegations.
