BREAKING: Court Grants Bail to Sowore and 12 Others in Major Legal Victory

Court Grants Sowore, 12 Others Bail Amid Ongoing Legal Battle

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, along with Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Prince Emmanuel Kanu (Kanu’s brother), and ten others, following their arraignment over the recent #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in the nation’s capital.

The thirteen defendants were each granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in like sum, after being charged with inciting public disturbance and breach of peace.

It was gathered that Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others were arrested during the protest held on October 20 in Abuja and subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility.

Sowore, on the other hand, was reportedly picked up on October 23 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he had gone to show solidarity during Kanu’s trial.

The arrests sparked widespread criticism from civil rights advocates and pro-democracy groups who described the clampdown as an attempt to suppress dissent.

Meanwhile, the court’s decision to grant bail is expected to ease mounting tension among supporters of the detained activists as their legal team prepares to meet the bail conditions.
