A professor at Delta State University, Abraka, Emeka Chukwuma, has been reportedly killed by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
It was gathered that the 56-year-old Don had just returned to his hometown of Umueji in Asaba, the Delta state capital, on Friday for his usual weekend when he was tragically killed in his home.
Naija News understands that there has been a significant increase in reported incidents of killings and kidnappings in Asaba, prompting residents to call on security agencies to fulfill their duty of safeguarding lives and property.
“Prof. Emeka Chukwuma was assassinated in Asaba on Friday night. He is a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, Anwai campus but later went back to the Abraka campus after the conversion of Anwai campus to Dennis Osadebey University,” The PUNCH quoted a source saying.
“Prof. Chukwuma usually comes home every weekend. It is unfortunate that he came back yesterday for his usual weekend and was assassinated in his place at St. Bridges area of Umueji quarter, in Asaba.
“As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe. We are confused over the situation.”
In response to inquiries on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the occurrence of the killings and stated that the police are actively investigating the matter to apprehend those responsible.
He remarked, “Indeed, the incident has been reported to the police, and we are currently examining the situation.”
