The president of PANDEF, Sir Edwin Clark, emphasized the high degree of corruption among the nation’s governors in an interview with Channels Television. He said that Ifeanyi Okowa, the previous governor of Delta State, used their derivation money to construct a university in the state.
Clark highlighted his dissatisfaction with the alleged mishandling of finances, pointing out the large amount of money spent on infrastructure projects in the governor’s hometown, such as the construction of a road that cost more than 50 billion naira.
According to him, “Most of our governors are corrupt. They utilise this money for themselves. But to imagine that my former governor should build a university with our derivation money is unheard of in his own village, which had no institutions before. So they’re wasting our money. He tarred all the roads in his own area for over 50 billion naira. Whose money? Warri, which is the headquarters of the oil-producing community in the South.”
