BREAKING: Despite outrage by former First Lady Betty, Ondo governor immortalises late Akeredolu

The governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has immortalised his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu by naming the High Court complex after him.

Aiyedatiwa while speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the court complex said the project is a historic milestone for the state.

Recall that the incumbent governor of Ondo assumed office after the death of Akeredolu on December 27, 2023.

Also, with reports of immortalising the late governor, his widow, Betty Akeredolu said the state government was only joking.

Rejecting the activities and planned lecture in memory of Akeredolu, Betty said she was not interested in the government’s move.

However, making the announcement on the naming of the complex, Aiyedatiwa said, “This is a milestone celebration as we flag off the construction of a new high court complex in our dear state. Since the creation of Ondo State in 1976, no attempt has been made to provide a modern edifice for the administration of justice.

“Today, we are not only making history but also fulfilling a long-standing dream of the judiciary.

The governor said that this development is the actualisation of the dream and vision of Akeredolu.

According to the governor, Akeredolu desired to provide a state-of-the-art high court complex to enhance the workload and welfare of our judiciary.

“Naming this project the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex is a fitting way to immortalise his legacy,” he added.
