BREAKING: Djokovic Sets New Record To Qualify For Miami Open Semi-Finals

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic earned a dominant 6-3 7-6 (7-4) victory over Sebastian Korda to qualify for the semi-final of the 2025 Inter Miami Open.

The 37-year-old became the oldest to reach the last four of an ATP Masters 1,000 event at the age of 37 years and 10 months.

The legendary Roger Federer earlier held the record after making his way through to the semis of the Indian Wells, and Miami Open back in 2019 at the age of 37 years and seven months.

Djokovic closed out the first set in style by winning the final 12 points, and recovered from going behind 5-2 in the second to fight back to secure victory in a tie-break.

He admitted he was nervous in the encounter, as he closes in on a record seventh Miami Open title, and his first since 2016.l

Djokovic said: “I am very relieved I won in straight sets. I was quite nervous to be honest, because you never know what comes from Korda. He’s so aggressive, so talented and can play any shot. I was on the back foot and it was a tense match.

“You wait an entire day and if it’s for the rain I guess you accept it, but this was scheduled and then the matches and everything just extended so much.

“The match was postponed for today and it wasn’t too early so it was OK to get some sleep. I didn’t go to bed until 2.30am so it disrupts your body rhythm – so I’m just happy to come through.”

This was his 99th win across the singles tournaments at Indian Wells, and Miami with just 18 defeats.

That win rate of 84.6% is the best of any player to play 10 such matches since 1985.

Djokovic will now face Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-finals.

Jakub Mensik earned a 7-6 6-1 win over Arthur Fils to set up a semi-final clash against Taylor Fritz.

In the women’s category, World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka breezed her way into the final with a comfortable 6-2 6-2 win over Jasmine Paolini.

In the other semi-final, Jessica Pegula defeated Alexandra Eala 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3 to book a final place against Aryna Sabalenka.
