BREAKING: Do not allow Customs to sell the seized food items, take it away from them- Primate Ayodele tells FG

Founder and leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has urged the Nigerian government to retrieve all confiscated food products held by the Nigerian Customs Service, rather than proceeding with the auctioning of these goods to the public.

In response to the recent statement by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, expressing commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to address food insecurity by selling seized items at discounted prices, Primate Elijah Ayodele voiced his disagreement through the official TikTok account of his church. He criticized the decision, suggesting that the government should take possession of the confiscated food and distribute it to various states within the country.

He remarked, “Look at what the Nigeria Customs have done, it is not commendable. You should have sold the rice across the different states of the Federation. And also, when you know there is a problem like this, why didn’t you do this before now? These vehicles they are seizing, sell it to some states. Don’t allow Customs to sell these seized food items, take it away from them. The federal government should now arrange who will be doing it.”

The clergyman concluded by criticizing the Nigeria Customs Service for the reported instances of people facing peril while attempting to access the confiscated food items. He urged them to seek assistance from knowledgeable individuals if they are uncertain about how to handle the situation.
