BREAKING: Don’t Sensationalize Security Crisis, Governor’s Aide Urges Residents

The Special Advisor to the Sokoto state governor on security matters, Colonel Ahmed Usman (Rtd), has cautioned residents against making inflammatory and politicised statements that could hinder ongoing efforts to tackle security challenges in the state.

This special adviser issued the warning in response to recent comments credited to one Basharu Altine Guyawa.

According to Col. Usman, Guyawa’s remarks sought to portray the state government as negligent in its responsibilities regarding security, a claim he described as not only misleading but also potentially damaging to the morale of both citizens and security operatives working tirelessly to restore peace.

“The issue of security is a collective one. The government alone cannot provide security without the contribution and support of the citizenry,” he stated.

Col. Usman said that the sensational and politicised narratives could discourage public support and appreciation for the efforts being made by the government and security agencies.

He further noted that the Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has been proactive in addressing the insecurity, especially in the eastern part of the state, which has been most affected.

“Recently, the government facilitated a joint security operation in the region, which led to the destruction of numerous bandits’ hideouts, the elimination of several criminals, and the rescue of multiple kidnap victims.”

“In addition, the state government has consistently provided logistical and financial support to security agencies. Among other efforts, it restored monthly allowances previously stopped by the past administration and donated hundreds of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to security outfits across the state.”

He said the government has also established regular forums where security operatives, community leaders, and other stakeholders meet to strategise and collaborate on tackling the state’s security issues. According to Col. Usman, these meetings have contributed to a significant reduction in attacks in recent times.

“Ironically, Guyawa, who now criticises the government’s security approach, had in February presented an award of excellence to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on behalf of the Movement for Social Justice in Nigeria. During the ceremony at the Government House in Sokoto, Guyawa reportedly commended the administration for its interventions and commitment to peace and security.

Col. Usman reiterated the government’s zero tolerance for actions or statements aimed at frustrating its mission to secure the lives and property of all residents.

“We will not condone any attempt by any individual or group to distract or derail the progress being made in this regard,” he warned.
