The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has disclaimed a Facebook account purportedly opened by the President of the Commission, Dr. Omar Touray.
The Commission in a statement by its Directorate of Communication said: “Our attention has been drawn to a fake, and malicious Facebook account purported to be for the President of the ECOWAS Commission H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray using his name and photo.
“This is to notify the general public, particularly the online community, that the H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray does not have a Facebook account and has not authorised any one to set up, operate or make any post on his behalf on Facebook.
“The only approved Official social media handles where information and communique of H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray are published are as follows:

“Preliminary investigations have shown that the fraudsters behind the said Facebook account are using it to defraud members of the public of their hard-earned resources.
Whilst reports have been made to appropriate Authorities and investigations are ongoing, the general public are advised to remain cautious and disregard such fake account.”
