The Edo State House of Assembly has terminated the appointments of all political aides attached to its members, effective immediately.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku announced the decision during a plenary session in Benin on Wednesday, stating that all 24 lawmakers unanimously agreed to the dismissal.
The affected appointees include special advisers and senior special advisers, who were initially appointed following the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly in June 2023.
“I believe it has been nearly two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that these appointees should be relieved of their duties as of today, 19 February,” Agbebaku said.
He added that the dismissed aides would receive their February salaries, and further deliberations would be held to determine the next steps.
