EFCC Arraigns Two Premium Trust Bank Employees Over Alleged Conspiracy to Steal Funds in Lagos
The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against two employees of Premium Trust Bank—Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola—before Justice Alexander Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
They were jointly arraigned alongside three other individuals—Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola—on a seven-count charge concerning conspiracy to commit theft.
According to a statement from the EFCC’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, the accused allegedly conspired to manipulate the bank’s server and domain credentials with the aim of gaining unauthorized access to the bank’s database and potentially stealing customers’ funds.
The EFCC clarified that the attempted cyber intrusion was foiled before any financial losses occurred.
The statement further reads:
“On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC arraigned Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola, both employees of Premium Trust Bank, before Justice Alexander Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.”
“They were also joined by Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola, charged on a seven-count conspiracy to steal.”
“It was alleged that the defendants conspired to manipulate the bank’s server and domain credentials to unlawfully access its database for the purpose of stealing depositors’ funds.”
“The planned cyber-attack was successfully prevented by the EFCC.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Prosecution counsel Zeenat B. Atiku requested a trial date and asked that the suspects be remanded in a correctional facility.
Counsel to the first defendant, Adeleke Adepoju, applied for bail on behalf of his client, citing insufficient time to prepare a formal application. Other defense lawyers also sought oral bail applications for their clients.
Justice Owoeye declined to grant bail at this stage, directing the lawyers to submit formal applications. The first defendant was ordered to be remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the other four suspects were remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned to June 30, 2025, for the commencement of
