BREAKING: EFCC Chairman Laments Citizens’ Support For Corrupt Leaders

The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede has alleged that Nigerians despite calling for an end to corruption continue to support corrupt leaders.

Olukoyede while speaking during a visit by officials of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), led by Chris Olukolade said he was worried over citizens’ contradictory stance on corruption in the country.

He said it is unbelievable that while many Nigerians seem to condemn corruption practices among leaders, they also rally around them whenever they face prosecution.

He assured that the EFCC will remain committed to fighting financial corruption across Nigeria.

His word, “One of the major problems in Nigeria, which, when tackled, will make under-development a thing of the past, is corruption and financial crimes.

“A society that is ready to move forward is a responsibility not only of the government, but of the citizens.

“This is what has actually led some of us to be very committed to this cause. We are ready to go the whole hog to do what we need to do within the confines and provisions of the law and the power that the Constitution has conferred on us,” Olukoyede said.

He also urged Nigerians to work with the EFCC in its effort to stem corrupt financial practices among leaders in the country.
