BREAKING: El-Rufai, Al-Mustpha influence will boost party fortunes, says Kano SDP chair

The chairman of the Kano state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ali Shettima has welcomed the former Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha into the SDP, expressing optimism that their membership will boost the party’s fortune come 2027 general elections.

Shettima spoke to journalists during the party’s extraordinary meeting at its secretariat along Zaria Road, Kano.

Shettima hailed El-Rufai and Al-Mustapha’s entry into SDP, describing it as a significant boost.

Shettima also denied rumours of rancour within the party in Kano, reaffirming its strength and unity despite the recent defection of its governorship candidate in the state, insisting that the party structure remains intact.

According to him, “We want to tell the world that the party remains intact in the state. Only the governorship candidate left, and that means nothing to us.”

He also denied claims that Local Government and Ward chairmen of the party have also defected, emphasizing that party officials across the state remain in the party.

“As you have seen, our party executives, including the Director-General of the governorship candidates’ campaign for organization, are still with us. The claims that they all left with him are false. He left alone, accompanied only by the Vice Presidential candidate,” he added.
