The 16th Emir of Kano, Lamido Muhammad Sanusi II, has appealed to the people of Kano State to remain peaceful after the Court of Appeal’s judgment that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over the emirate dispute.
Naija News reported that a Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Muhammad Mustapha, had on Friday, January 10, 2025, ordered the Chief Judge of Kano to assign a fresh judge to review the case between the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, the Kano State Government, and the 16th Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, as well as the Kano State Assembly.
The Court further stated that the Federal High Court in Kano had no jurisdiction to try the monarchy case as it should be under the state High Court.
Reacting to the Court’s judgment on Friday after prayers at his palace in Kano City, Emir Sanusi commended the verdict and urged the people of the state to remain patient and prayerful.
He said, “As you all know, the monarchy succeeded in Court today. The Court of Appeal upheld that the Federal High Court has no right to try this case. The Court knew it did not have the jurisdiction, the person who filed the case knew that the Court didn’t have it, and the judge that delivered the judgment knew the Court didn’t have the jurisdiction, and those that appointed the judge knew about it, yet for eight solid years, this dispute has persistent in trying to raise confusion in Kano State, but Allah’s will, we are protected.
“Therefore, I urge the people to remain patient and prayerful.”
