The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for launching the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS).
Recall that on Monday, Governor Mbah commissioned the ENGIS which he said, “is not merely a victory for the government; it is a triumph for the people of Enugu,” adding that “Today marks the end of the era of land grabbing, unauthorised constructions, double allocations, and revenue diversion.
“Today, we are launching a system that will help us meet our economic growth objectives. With ENGIS, you can complete a title application within 48 hours, all from the comfort of your home, allowing you to apply for titles and conduct searches with near-instant results.”
Reacting to this, Architect Onyekachi stated that; “ENGIS is a state-of-the-art land management system that provides significant advantages for the real estate sector, particularly in simplifying the process of obtaining land titles. It enables land applications to be processed online within 48 hours, effectively eliminating the delays that often hinder property transactions. This innovation not only lowers operational costs for developers and investors but also facilitates a seamless property acquisition experience, crucial for boosting investor confidence.
“For property developers, this system is a transformative solution to long-standing issues such as double allocations and unauthorised encroachments. By providing a centralised, verifiable database of land records, ENGIS minimises property ownership disputes, fostering a reliable environment for transactions, which is essential for long-term planning and project execution in the real estate industry.
“The availability of accurate geospatial data through ENGIS will also redefine urban planning and development. Real estate developers and urban planners are now equipped to make informed decisions regarding land use, zoning, and project siting. This data accuracy not only encourages strategic growth but also ensures that projects align with the wider goals of sustainable urbanisation in the state.
“Moreover, ENGIS significantly eases the process of obtaining construction permits, an essential factor for real estate developers. The digitisation and automation of these processes remove bureaucratic obstacles, streamlining project timelines and allowing developers to concentrate on delivering quality housing and commercial infrastructure.
“The economic benefits of ENGIS are substantial, promoting efficiency and transparency in revenue collection related to land activities, boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and fostering a business-friendly environment for stakeholders in the real estate sector. This will ultimately attract both local and international investors.
“Powell Homes and Shelters Limited believes that ENGIS marks a significant advancement for Enugu State’s economy and property management. The system’s digital transformation is perfectly aligned with the requirements of modern real estate operations and emphasises the state’s readiness for expansive growth in the sector.
“We encourage stakeholders in the real estate and construction industries to embrace the advantages offered by ENGIS. Together, we can position Enugu State as a hub for real estate development, economic growth, and sustainable urbanization.”
