BREAKING: Enyimba Are One Game Away From Exiting CAF Confederation Cup

Enyimba face a challenging path to advance in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup following their 1-1 draw at home against Egyptian side, Al Masry on Sunday, January 13.

To enhance their chances of qualifying for the next round, Enyimba needed a victory in this crucial penultimate group match.

However, the match started on a challenging note as Al Masry opened the scoring early in the 8th minute with a well-placed shot from Mohamed Hashem. The goal came from a corner taken quickly with a clever short pass, leaving Hashem unmarked in the area.

Despite this setback, Stanley Eguma’s team displayed determination and ramped up their efforts in search of an equalizer. Their perseverance paid off just two minutes into the second half when Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scored, marking his second consecutive goal in the competition.

In a tactical move, Eguma introduced experienced forward Brown Ideye in the 58th minute, hoping to capitalize on his previous success against the Black Bulls. Although he made an impactful entry, the team was unable to secure a winning goal.

Al Masry had a chance to regain the lead in the 68th minute, but Enyimba’s Super Eagles B goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena made a crucial penalty save, highlighting the team’s resilience.

As a result of the draw, Enyimba remain in third place in CAF Confederation Group D, with five points. To keep their hopes alive, they will need a victory against group leader Zamalek in their final match in Egypt next Sunday. It is also essential for the Black Bulls to secure a win against Al Masry at home for Enyimba to advance.
