BREAKING: Enyimba risk ouster after Black Bulls defeat

Two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba FC are walking tightrope in the group stage of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup after suffering two defeats in three games so far this season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The nine-time Nigerian champions were handed a 3-0 defeat by Black Bulls of Mozambique on Sunday, a further dent in their chances of making it into the knock-out stage of the tournament.

Enyimba started the game on the back foot as they were a goal down after a quarter of an hour.

Nigerian-born Rume Akporoh opened the scoring for the Mozambicans before another Nigerian-born Francis Ayuba Abubakar put the final nail in Enyimba’s coffin in the 64th minute, scoring the third goal after Fidel De Sousa’s 57th-minute goal.

No thanks to the defeat, Enyimba are now rooted in the bottom of Group D with just a point after one draw and two defeats in the group stages.

They will hope to start their revival on the continent when they host the Black Bulls in their fourth game of the campaign but they still have two difficult tests against Al Masry at home and Zamalek in Egypt.

Yemi Olanrewaju’s side will need to win all their remaining three matches to stand a chance of progressing into the next round, depending on the results of their remaining group opponents.

Meanwhile, the former Nigerian champions are yet to win any of their last five games on the domestic and continental scene, with their last win in any competition being the 2-1 win over Ikorodu City on October 27.

Although they have played three games less than other teams, Enyimba are currently 10th in the NPFL with just 22 points.
