In a desperate bid to locate her missing husband, Florence Nweke, the wife of former Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nweke, has come out publicly to debunk a press statement allegedly made by her husband.

Mrs. Nweke claimed that the press statement, which has been circulating in the media, is fake and was coerced out of her husband.

She revealed that Dr. Nweke was invited to Abuja by Henry Ogiri, an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, and has been unreachable since then.

According to Mrs. Nweke, her husband was initially pressured to sign a document implicating the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, but he refused.

She expressed fears that her husband might have been kidnapped and is being held hostage, as all efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful.

In a heart-wrenching video, Mrs. Nweke was seen receiving a call from Governor Fubara, to whom she pleaded for help in locating her missing husband. She insisted that the press statement was not made by her husband and that he is in trouble.

“This morning, they called me and said my husband granted an interview. I said that is not my husband… I sent him a message, ‘Are you under duress?’” Mrs. Nweke said, her voice shaking with emotion.

Meanwhile, in a recent video, Nwaeke explained that he voluntarily traveled to Abuja to report himself to security agencies over the troubling events happening in Rivers State.

He revealed that he resigned as Head of Service on Monday, March 24, due to the developments in the state.

Nwaeke clarified that his wife, Florence, was misled into believing he was kidnapped and was given a script to read.

He assured that he is safe and sound, lodging at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, emphasizing that as a former Head of Service, he is on oath and that his wife was not involved in his official duties, making the script she read “null and void”

He explained: “I came in here to meet with security agencies to report myself and to report the things that are happening in the state are making me to feel sick.

“Actually, I was Head of Service until Monday, March 24, and I resigned because of the things that are happening.

“I just saw a video of my wife trending where they went to hold her and fed her with all kind of fallacies.  They(Fubara) told her that I have been kidnapped.

“I want to clear the air that I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, this is Transcop hotel where I am lodging and they wrote the script  for my wife to say all sort of things.”

He added: “I want to put things straight, I am the head of service and I am on oath. My wife  does not know the things that happen in my office, I don’t discuss things about office with her, only my domestic or social matters that I discussed to her.

“So, that script they wrote for her is Null and Void. I am safe and fine. I am in Abuja and at dawn I intend to go to the security agencies to report myself.”

Also, Professor Henry Ogiri, an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Nyesom Wike, who was accused of orchestrating Nwaeke’s trip to Abuja has denied the allegations of any involvement.

In a press release, Professor Ogiri described the allegations as “poorly rehearsed theatrics,” stating that he has only spoken to Dr. Nwaeke once since leaving the Rivers State cabinet in November 2023.

“I have not spoken with Dr. George Nwaeke since the Supreme Court judgment,” Professor Ogiri said. “And if this allegation was from Dr. George Nwaeke himself, then I would have viewed this from a different perspective.”

Professor Ogiri also provided an alibi, stating that he has been in Port Harcourt since February 28, 2025, and has not traveled out of the state. He claimed to have been working at his office and preparing for the burial of his foster father, which took place on March 22, 2025.

The professor emphasized that telephone service providers and airlines can provide evidence to corroborate his claims.

He urged his supporters and the general public to remain calm, assuring them that the truth will be revealed soon.
