The Lagos State House of Assembly held its first plenary session on Friday under the leadership of newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, following the ousting of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
The plenary, which commenced at 11 a.m., was attended by a majority of lawmakers representing various constituencies.
However, Obasa, who was removed on Monday over allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation, was notably absent.
Before his removal, Obasa, representing Agege Constituency 1, was reportedly on vacation in Atlanta, United States.
It remains unclear if he has returned to the country or is still abroad. The former Speaker has yet to publicly respond to the allegations against him.
Addressing the House, Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, expressed her dedication to upholding transparency and good governance.
“I pledge to work tirelessly to uphold the principles of transparency, good governance, and other noble tenets that this House stands for,” Meranda stated.
Naija News had earlier reported that during the plenary, Meranda announced new principal officers for the House, marking the beginning of a new leadership era.
The members appointed are: Hon Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1) as Majority Leader, Hon Sanni Babatunde ( Kosofe 1) as Chief Whip, Hon. Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2) as Deputy Majority Leader while Hon. David Setonji (Badagry 2) as Deputy Chief Whip.
