BREAKING: Explosion Hits Trans-Niger Pipeline in Rivers State

An explosion has reportedly struck the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, causing alarm in the oil-producing region.

The incident, which was confirmed to ARISE NEWS by company officials on Tuesday, occurred on Monday night along the key export pipeline that transports crude oil to the Bonny Terminal, one of Nigeria’s major crude export hubs.

While the exact cause remains uncertain, early indications suggest the explosion could be linked to pipeline vandalism, oil theft, or a technical failure. Authorities are yet to confirm the extent of the damage, possible casualties, or environmental impact.

The TNP, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), is a crucial infrastructure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. It has frequently been targeted by militants, illegal bunkerers, and saboteurs, resulting in significant disruptions to oil production and revenue losses.

Meanwhile, residents of Bodo and nearby communities have voiced concerns over the possible economic and ecological consequences of the incident.
