The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed profound sorrow over the passing of distinguished parliamentarian and former Speaker, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
In a personally signed statement shared with journalists, Dr. Mahmoud hailed Rt. Honourable Ghali Na’Abba as a parliamentarian of exceptional merit. She extended condolences to his family and the government of Kano State, emphasizing Na’Abba’s significant contributions during his tenure as Speaker from 1999 to 2003.
The statement highlighted Na’Abba’s crucial role in shaping and strengthening Nigeria’s legislature, leaving an enduring legacy on the nation’s democracy.
Mahmoud conveyed heartfelt sympathy, stating, “Alhaji Na’Abba’s contributions to the development and strengthening of the legislature cannot be overemphasized, which, by all means, left an indelible imprint on our democracy.”
Expressing solidarity with the grieving family, the minister concluded the statement with prayers for the departed, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
We pray Allah (SWT) to shine light on his grave, grant him Jannatul Firdausi, and provide solace to those mourning his departure.”
