BREAKING: FG Arrests Lawyer for Brutal Assault on Wife, Faces Legal Action

The federal government apprehended 55-year-old lawyer Ekere Sunday Ubong, caught on viral video beating his wife. Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, revealed the arrest during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing zero tolerance for gender-based violence.

Ubong is set to face court charges on December 19, 2023, as the Women Affairs Ministry asserts commitment to justice.

She said that the government of President Bola Tinubu has zero tolerance for any form of sexual and gender based violence irrespective of who is involved, be it a man or women therefore, Mr. Ubong will be charged to court, Tuesday 19th December 2023.

“Yesterday being 17th of December, 2023, I got a lot of messages from Nigerians who forwarded a video where one man that I later found out is a lawyer, was beating up and dehumanizing the wife. The wife ran out naked with blood all over her face, and this man was kept on punching and kicking the wife on the streets.

“I want to assure you Nigerians, I want to assure all the other CSOs that got to me yesterday being Sunday, the 17th of December, 2028, that today being 18th of December, 2023, the man has been arrested.

“I couldn’t sleep at night; it kept me sleepless so I quickly called my brother, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun and I told him about it. He himself got really upset and introduced me to his PSO. I called the PSO and I got the number of the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police. You wouldn’t believe that immediately I called the Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner, one Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi who quickly went into action and called me that same yesterday, he said, Ma, I have arrested him .

“So as we speak now, I want Nigerians to know that the barrister that was battering his wife on the social media, his name is Barrister Ekere Sunday Ubong, 55 years old, has been arrested.

So all of you should calm yourselves and know that action, legal action, will definitely be taken. I will not let this line loose. I don’t care whether the wife is pleading for him. I don’t care whether anybody or the members of the family are pressurizing the wife to come down and plead for him. The Women Affairs Ministry have waged in. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda has waged in and nobody will stop us we must charge him to court. It’s now between him and the Ministry of Women Affairs. That is what we are going to court with,” the minister said.
