The Federal Ministry of Education has summoned the principal of Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Benin City, to Abuja over allegations of sexual harassment leveled against a teacher, Mr. Jatto.
This move follows the submission of an investigative panel’s report, which cleared the teacher of sexual misconduct and stated that the case was actually about high-handedness in classroom management rather than harassment.
In a statement on Thursday, Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, confirmed that an official investigation is still ongoing.
“Following a thorough review, it has been established that the case in question is not one of sexual harassment but an issue of high-handedness in classroom management, which was initially misrepresented,” the statement read.
The ministry further clarified that preliminary findings from the school’s investigative panel revealed that Mr. Jatto was on prep supervision duty at the time of the incident and was responding to a rowdy classroom situation.
Despite the panel’s findings, the principal has been summoned to Abuja for further clarification as part of the ministry’s continued efforts to ensure due process.
The statement urged the public to remain patient as the final findings will be made known in due time. It also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency and upholding the integrity of educational institutions across Nigeria.
