BREAKING: FG Selects 15 hospitals for training on BPSO

In a bid to improve the quality of nursing practices across the country, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), Canada, has selected 15 hospitals to be trained in the Best Practice Spotlight Organisation (BPSO) initiative.

Speaking at the launch of the BPSO event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, described the initiative as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s healthcare system.

“As the host, the ministry will be responsible for training, monitoring, and overseeing the delivery of nursing services at the federal tertiary healthcare institutions (FTHIs), and supporting them in implementing the RNAO Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs),” Kachollom said.

She explained that the BPSO initiative offers a structured pathway for adopting and implementing best practice guidelines, with nurses being equipped to provide care that is not only evidence-based but also culturally sensitive and patient-centred.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by Mrs. Aribeana Olubunmi, emphasised that this approach will significantly contribute to the achievement of the Coordinating Minister’s four-point health agenda, as well as the global sustainable development goals.

Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen, the Director of Hospital Services, stated that the four-day training programme for teams from the 15 selected FTHIs, spanning the six geopolitical zones of the country, will empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to meet global standards.

The Director, who was represented by Dr. Okpikpo Okpako, Director of Regulatory and Professional Schools, also highlighted that the partnership would help address local challenges in the healthcare sector.
