BREAKING: Fubara, family members held by soldiers in Rivers

The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and members of his family are being held by some heavily armed soldiers at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the soldiers stormed the Government House while the suspended governor and his family were trying to pack their belongings following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers by President Bola Tinubu.

The president while announcing his decision said he was invoking Section 180 of the Nigerian Constitution as amended.

His decision, the president said, is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the political crisis rocking the state.

He also named a former Chief of Navy Staff, Ibot Ete Ibas (retired) as an administrator in the state for the next six months.

Speaking on their ordeal an official of the Government House also affected by the soldiers’ actions said the military personnel told them nobody can leave the premises.

The official said, “We are being held hostage. They said they don’t have instruction to let anyone leave the premises.”
