Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his shock and deep sorrow at the passing of Major-General Godwin Osagie Abbe (rtd), a former military governor of Rivers State.
The late Abbe, originally from Edo State, served as military governor of Rivers State from August 1990 to January 1992.
Governor Fubara described General Abbe as a dedicated leader committed to the welfare of the people of Rivers State and humanity as a whole. He remarked that the loss of this distinguished military officer, politician, and administrator is a significant blow to Rivers State, the Niger Delta, and indeed the entire nation, considering Abbe’s invaluable contributions throughout his military and political career.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the wonderful people of Rivers State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Abbe family, the people of Edo State, and the Nigerian military on the passing of this giant, whose contributions to the unity, peace, and development of our nation are nothing short of legendary,” Fubara stated.
“While we grieve his painful departure during this challenging time, we pray for the eternal repose of his soul and encourage his family to find comfort in knowing that General Abbe lived a life dedicated to the service of his country.”
The governor concluded by highlighting the enduring legacy of the late General’s commitment to Nigeria.
