President Tinubu Welcomes Nigerians to 2025 with Renewed Optimism and Bold Promises
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ushered Nigerians into the New Year with an uplifting message of hope, determination, and plans for a brighter future.
In his New Year’s address, delivered on the morning of January 1, 2025, the President outlined the government’s achievements, ongoing reforms, and goals for the year ahead, promising that better days lie ahead for the nation.
In his speech, Tinubu highlighted promising economic indicators, citing a gradual reduction in fuel prices, consistent trade surpluses for three consecutive quarters, an increase in foreign reserves, and a stronger Naira against the US dollar as evidence of a steady economic recovery. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to building a resilient and prosperous Nigeria.
A Message of Hope Amidst Challenges
President Tinubu acknowledged the economic challenges faced by Nigerians in 2024, including rising costs of essential goods such as food and medicine. However, he expressed confidence that 2025 would bring significant improvements as the government intensifies efforts to address these issues.
He stated:
“Though 2024 posed numerous challenges to our citizens and households, I am confident that the New Year will bring brighter days. Economic indicators point to a positive and encouraging outlook for our nation.”
Strengthening the Economy and Reducing Inflation
The President pledged to tackle inflation, which stood at a staggering 34.6% in 2024, with the goal of reducing it to 15% by the end of 2025. He also announced plans to boost food production and local manufacturing of essential drugs to lower costs and ensure affordability for all Nigerians.
To stimulate economic growth, Tinubu unveiled a plan to enhance credit access for individuals and businesses through the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company. This new institution, a collaboration between government bodies, private-sector stakeholders, and international organizations, is expected to strengthen the financial system, expand credit opportunities, and support underserved demographics such as women and youth. Operations are slated to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
“This initiative will drive growth, re-industrialization, and improved living standards for our people,” the President declared.
Focus on National Unity and Shared Values
Addressing the importance of national identity and unity, Tinubu announced the forthcoming launch of the National Values Charter, a framework designed to promote ethical principles, shared values, and patriotism among Nigerians. This initiative, which has already been approved by the Federal Executive Council, will be accompanied by a national orientation campaign aimed at fostering trust and collaboration between citizens and the government.
The President stressed:
“As far-reaching and foundational as our reforms are, they can produce the desired outcomes only through shared common values and unconditional love for our country.”
In addition, a Youth Conference will be held in the first quarter of 2025, highlighting the government’s commitment to youth inclusion in governance and development. Modalities for participation will soon be announced by the Ministry of Youth.
Encouraging Collaboration and Innovation
Tinubu urged state governors and local council leaders to collaborate closely with the federal government to harness emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock development, and energy reforms. He applauded states that had adopted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles as part of Nigeria’s energy transition strategy and reaffirmed the federal government’s support for these initiatives.
“I commend governors who have embraced our Compressed Natural Gas initiative by launching CNG-propelled public transport. I also congratulate those who have adopted electric vehicles as part of our national energy mix and transition.”
Renewed Commitment to Nation-Building
Tinubu concluded his address with an appeal for unity, urging Nigerians to continue believing in themselves and working together for a better future. He assured citizens that the sacrifices they have made over the past 19 months were not in vain and called on everyone to stay committed to the vision of a prosperous, inclusive Nigeria.
“The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire and the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
Looking Ahead
As Nigerians celebrate the start of 2025, Tinubu’s New Year message serves as a rallying call for collective effort, resilience, and optimism. The President’s plans signal a renewed focus on sustainable economic growth, national unity, and inclusivity—building blocks for the Nigeria of tomorrow.
God bless Nigeria, and Happy New Year!
