Amidst the crisis in Osun State on Monday, a video has emerged showing Kayode Atolagbe, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ifedayo Local Government, firing a dane gun into the air while surrounded by cheering supporters.
The video, which was shared on X by Prince Aderemi, a former Media Assistant to the ex-governor of Osun State and current Minister of Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, captured the political rallying his supporters.
On the same day, there were reports of deadly clashes between members of the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) across several other local government areas, leading to the loss of lives.
In Irewole local government area, the sacked chairman, Mr. Aderemi Abbas, was killed.
The violence followed a controversial Court of Appeal ruling, which purportedly reinstated APC-elected local government chairmen and councillors.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command says it has launched an investigation. Authorities have vowed to track down those responsible for the violence and ensure they face justice. Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters has announced the immediate deployment of tactical units to Osun State.
