Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has denied allegations linking him to the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson.
Reports circulating on social media alleged that the governor was responsible for Nengi’s pregnancy, a claim that has since been debunked by both parties.
Reacting to the rumors, Governor Diri described them as a smear campaign orchestrated by political opponents to tarnish his image. He expressed shock over the timing of the allegations, noting that they surfaced on the same day his administration marked its 5th anniversary.
His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, emphasizing that Nengi has no personal relationship with the governor.
“This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms,” Oredipe stated.
He further criticized those spreading falsehoods, stating that while the state government was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa, detractors were busy fabricating lies against the governor.
Describing Governor Diri as a man of integrity, Oredipe reaffirmed that the allegations held no factual basis and were simply an attempt to undermine the administration’s achievements.
