On Friday, March 21, a 12-hour curfew was imposed on Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State by Governor Ademola Adeleke
The curfew was imposed by the governor following the resurgence of violent crises between both communities in the state.
Kolapo Alimi, the Osun state Commissioner for Information and Public Engagement in a statement said that the curfew starts at 6 pm and lasts until 6 am every day.
According to Alimi, the governor has also ordered an emergency meeting which would be attended by Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, and Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, the Olobu of Ilobu.
Other key stakeholders and elders from both communities are also expected to be at the meeting which is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
“To this end, the governor has directed that the initial 10 pm to 4 am curfew now be extended to 6 pm to 6 am, effective today, Friday, 21st March 2025, until further notice.
“Mr. Governor has equally directed that the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps continue to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance for any act of lawlessness,” Alimi said.
The governor also called on residents and indigenes of the warring communities to embrace peace and encourage co-existence with one another.
He also warned that miscreants or all those intent on abetting crisis in these areas or the state at large would be dealt with according to the provisions of the law.
