Gunmen disguised in military uniforms have kidnapped the village head of Dnako in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja, HRH Etsu Yuda Garba, along with his two grandchildren and five other residents.
The attack took place around 12:03 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a resident, Mr Tanko Baba.
He reported that the kidnappers, armed with AK-47 rifles, raided four houses, abducting five people before storming the traditional ruler’s home.
They forcefully took the village head and his two sleeping grandchildren, identified as Ephraim and Philemon, amid sporadic gunfire.
One of the victims, Nicholas, had just returned from the hospital, where his wife had given birth, when he encountered the gunmen.
The attackers operated for nearly 30 minutes before fleeing, firing shots to deter any pursuit. Security forces arrived after the assailants had escaped and are now in pursuit of the kidnappers.
Authorities have confirmed the attack, but further details from the FCT police command were not available at the time of reporting.
Residents of Bwari, which has faced repeated bandit attacks, have urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to take urgent action to improve security in the area.
