BREAKING: Home-based Super Eagles Qualify For 2024 CHAN After Beating Ghana

The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria have successfully secured their spot in the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The home-based Super Eagles secured their spot in the 2024 CHAN following an impressive 3-1 victory over their longstanding rivals, Ghana, in an exhilarating match played in Uyo on Saturday, December 28.

The Home Eagles displayed a commanding performance from the outset, establishing their dominance right from the first whistle. In a remarkable first half, they found the back of the net three times within a swift six-minute span, showcasing their offensive prowess.

Sodiq Ismail initiated Nigeria’s scoring frenzy in the 18th minute with a well-placed shot after being expertly set up by captain Junior Nduka. This early goal set the tone for Nigeria’s aggressive approach to the game. Just three minutes later, Nduka himself doubled the lead. Showing remarkable composure, he neatly slotted the ball into the net from inside the penalty area, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The third goal came as a result of a crucial error in the Ghanaian defence, which Rangers winger Isaac Saviour was quick to exploit. Capitalizing on the mistake, Saviour pounced on the loose ball and added Nigeria’s third goal, effectively putting the team in a commanding position.

As the match progressed, Ghana fought back valiantly and managed to reduce the deficit 18 minutes before the final whistle. Substitute Amankona Stephen found the net for the visitors, bringing a glimmer of hope to the Ghanaian side, but it ultimately proved to be too little, too late.

This win marks a significant milestone for the home-based Eagles, as they return to the prestigious CHAN tournament after missing the last two editions. The last time Nigeria participated in this competition was back in 2018, making this qualification particularly noteworthy after a six-year absence.

Note that the coaching duo of Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars and Fidelis Ilechukwu of Enugu Rangers steered the Super Eagles B team to this important victory against Ghana in their inaugural outing as coaches of the national team.
