BREAKING: Hospital Worker Fatally Shot Outside Medical Center—Suspect Captured

BATON ROUGE, LA – Chaos and tragedy unfolded outside Our Lady of the Lake Hospital as 58-year-old Patricia Jackson was gunned down in broad daylight, sending shockwaves through the community. Authorities have swiftly arrested 60-year-old Roland Domino, the man they believe pulled the trigger in what police describe as a domestic dispute turned deadly.

The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) confirmed that Domino was apprehended just hours after the brutal shooting. Officers tracked him down on the Mississippi River Bridge around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, bringing an intense manhunt to a swift close. He was taken into custody without resistance and is now facing charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. As of Thursday morning, his bond had not been set.

Deadly Confrontation in a Hospital Parking Lot

The fatal encounter took place at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the hospital’s parking lot, located near the Walgreens at the intersection of Essen Lane and Hennessy Boulevard. According to BRPD Chief TJ Morse, Jackson, a dedicated hospital employee, was leaving work when she became embroiled in a heated argument with Domino. Moments later, gunshots rang out—Jackson was struck multiple times, and her assailant fled the scene, triggering an immediate lockdown at the hospital.

For nearly an hour, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital remained on high alert as law enforcement secured the area. The lockdown was lifted just before 5 p.m., allowing staff and patients to resume normal operations, though the emotional toll of the tragedy remained heavy.

Suspect’s Criminal Past Raises Questions

As investigators piece together the events leading up to the shooting, disturbing details about Domino’s past have emerged. Authorities disclosed that he has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for forgery, simple burglary, aggravated assault, and simple battery. How a man with such a record was able to escalate to such violence is now a question haunting the Baton Rouge community.

A Hospital in Mourning

In the wake of Jackson’s death, the president of Our Lady of the Lake Health, Chuck Spicer, expressed profound sorrow.

“Thoughts are with the family. They lost a family member—a daughter, a mother, and a sister. Our work family lost one of our own,” Spicer said. “Thanks to the first responders and our security team for acting quickly. Please give us time to heal and grieve. Thank you again to law enforcement for their presence.”

The hospital also issued a heartfelt statement, calling the tragedy a violation of their mission as a place of healing.

“Our Lady of the Lake is a beacon of healing for our community, and today that sacred space was shattered by a tragic act of violence. We lost a member of our work family, a mother, and a friend to many.”

Hospital officials have assured staff that counseling and support services are available to help them cope with the devastating loss.

Meanwhile, law enforcement continues its investigation into what led to the fatal confrontation. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact BRPD at (225) 389-2000 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
