Abuja businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu on Tuesday, April 29, allegedly declared a hunger strike in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The declaration by Achimugu was made less than six hours after she was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon her return to Nigeria.

A statement issued by Chikaosolu Ojukwu, her lead counsel said Achimugu was arrested at about 5 am at the Abuja airport upon her return to the nation’s capital city.

Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on Monday ordered the businesswomen to honour the invitation of the EFCC today.

The court in its ruling also ordered Achimugu to appear before it on Wednesday, April 30 – a day after her meeting with the anti-graft agency.

However, Ojukwu said the businesswoman came into Abuja from London to honour the EFCC’s invitation before her her arrest.

He also confirmed that his client had informed the court – through her lawyers – that she would visit the anti-graft agency as ordered by the Federal High Court.

”She has immediately gone on a hunger strike. She is a prisoner of conscience and our stand in the arrest is that it has run contrary to the rule of law,” Ojukwu said.
