BREAKING: How Jigawa commissioner refunded N301 million unspent Ramadan funds

Auwalu Sankara, the Jigawa State commissioner for special duties has refunded a total of N301 million which was not used from the Ramadan feeding initiative funds to the coffers of the state government.

The retirement of the funds by the commissioner follows the conclusion of the 2025 Ramadan feeding initiative.

This development was announced at the State’s Executive Council meeting presided over by the governor of Jigawa, Umar Namadi.

It was gathered that N4.8 billion was earmarked by the state government for the purpose of the Ramadan feeding programme.

The initiative which was carried out across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state had 700 feeding programme centres.

The initiative was coordinated by a committee and served meals to over 5,550 residents of the states daily throughout the 29-day fasting period.

It was gathered that through the initiative, over 300 were fed in each centre with farmers and local business owners supported by the committee

Commending the sincerity and show of integrity exhibited by Sankara, the executive council said the commissioner’s action is a notable display of accountability.
