According to the report from the Nigerian Tribune, a seasoned Nigerian diplomat has expressed concern over recent allegation by the Niger Republic that Nigeria is colluding with France to destabilise the country. Former Ambassador Danjuma Nanpon Sheni, who currently leads the Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of Natives (PIDAN), shared his perspective on the situation.
“Yes, the warning came from no less a person than a head of state,” Sheni stated, noting his firsthand experience of hearing the controversial interview. “I listened to the interview in Hausa, and I was surprised at the level of accusations made against Nigeria.”
The former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the government’s response while raising procedural concerns. “Internally, the Honorable Minister of Information has rightly denied the allegations,” he observed, but added, “However, I find it surprising that it was the Minister of Information addressing this issue instead of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
Ambassador Sheni brings significant weight to this discussion, drawing from his extensive diplomatic career which included multiple ambassadorial positions representing Nigeria abroad before his retirement from the foreign service.
