Renowned actress Olivia Hussey Eisley, best known for her unforgettable role in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, has passed away at the age of 73.

Her death was confirmed through a heartfelt announcement shared on her Instagram page.

The statement posted on her Instagram read, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Hussey Eisley, who went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 27th.

“Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom, and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.”

Born on April 17, 1951, in Buenos Aires, Olivia Hussey rose to international fame with her Golden Globe-winning performance as Juliet, a role that became a hallmark of her illustrious career.

She later ventured into horror classics like ‘Black Christmas’ (1974) and the Agatha Christie-inspired Death on the Nile (1978). She also reunited with Zeffirelli in the acclaimed 1977 TV miniseries ‘Jesus of Nazareth’, portraying Mary.

Her career spanned decades, with notable roles in projects such as ‘Psycho IV: The Beginning’, Stephen King’s ‘It’ miniseries, and the biographical film ‘Mother Teresa’. Hussey also made her mark in thrillers like ‘El Grito’ and comedies like ‘Tortilla Heaven’ during the 2000s.

The statement reflected on her vibrant life, highlighting her love for the arts, spirituality, and animals. “Olivia lived a life full of passion, love, and dedication to the arts, spirituality, and kindness towards animals,” the statement said.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Glen Eisley, her children Alex, Max, and India, as well as her grandson, Greyson.

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, requesting privacy as they mourn her loss.
