Tony Okocha, the factional chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recently praised Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, during a thanksgiving event organized by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahoada East and West, Rivers State.
In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, speaking at the event, Okocha described Wike as a fearless leader and an achiever whose works speak for themselves. According to him, Wike’s accomplishments in Rivers State are visible in every corner, making it unnecessary to defend his record.
He admitted he initially felt uneasy when Wike faced criticism and attacks from some quarters, aimed at tarnishing his reputation. However, Okocha said he remained confident in Wike’s approach, describing him as a leader who values procedures and doing things the right way.
Okocha pointed out that many Nigerians resist paying taxes and following proper rules, but Wike, as the “new sheriff,” insists on enforcing order. While this has drawn complaints, Okocha believes it is necessary for progress.
Referring to a media interview featuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Okocha recounted how the president praised Wike, calling him a “good man” and a “performing Minister.” For Okocha, this statement settled the matter.
“If the president has identified you as a good man and a performing Minister, what else can anybody say?” Okocha asked, highlighting the significance of Tinubu’s endorsement.
Okocha concluded by urging critics to acknowledge Wike’s contributions and focus on the positive changes he is bringing to the country through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
