BREAKING: ‘If you don’t have business in Victoria Island, don’t come here’, Sanwo-Olu tells Lagosians

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised Lagos residents to stay away from the Victoria Island area of the state if they have no business there.

Speaking while conducting an assessment of the ongoing repairs on the Independence Bridge which caused an unimaginable traffic on the roads on Wednesday, April 2, the governor said the maintenance was inevitable.

Also taking responsibility for the ordeal faced by motorists on the road, the governor said the bridge had began to lose its integrity and needed to be repaired immediately.

“There is never a best time to solve a difficult problem like this. Any time you do it, there would be discomfort. Let’s bite the bullet and come out of this better,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor urged residents to explore other routes to their destinations while stating that those who have no business to conduct in Victoria Island should stay home or have their meetings virtually.

He added that the contract for the maintenance of the road and bridge had been signed over three years ago and all hands will be on deck to manage the gridlock, divert vehicles during the process of repair.

“If you don’t have business to do in Victoria Island in the next two to three weeks, conduct your business via social media, telephone, zoom meetings, online meetings, let’s plan ahead.

“If you don’t need to come and visit somebody here, you don’t have to come,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu further urged motorists to desist from driving against traffic or recklessly on the roads, especially during the period of two to three weeks when the repairs are ongoing.
